Calculating Child Support in Ohio
In most cases, child support is paid by the non-custodial parent to aid in the cost of raising the child(ren). The custodial parent is defined as the parent with whom a child resides the majority of the time. If a child resides with each parent an equal amount of time, the parent with lower income may still be entitled to receive child support.
Under Ohio law, child support is determined by statewide guidelines. This formula is based on several factors including gross income of each parent, the amount of time the child spends with each parent, childcare costs as well as other factors.
