When you divorce in Ohio, and you have a shared property at issue located in another state, we are going to look to Ohio law.
Let’s say that a husband and wife moved to Ohio five years ago, but they previously lived in California, where the wife owned several rental properties. Now, they are getting divorced. We have the ability in Ohio, to put language into the document that will cause these properties to be sold, (if that’s what the court holds), or to cause these properties to be transferred.
If one of the parties fails to cooperate in post-decree in the division of assets as ordered by the Ohio court, then the Ohio court enforces it through Contempt of Court action against the party who is not cooperating.
