Life insurance in divorce is often a point of contention in divorce. In the midst of a divorce, we would file a restraining order that would preclude the insured during the divorce process from changing the life insurance policy.
The court will have ordered you to not change it. If you do change it, that becomes a court issue. That is how we prevent you from dropping your life insurance policy as it relates to the final order or to the final settlement of the court.
If you owe ongoing child support or ongoing spousal support, the attorney may want that to be collateralized by your life insurance policy.
