I remember years back when this was the case that became the reported case on issues of same-sex parenting, my client came to me and asked me if it would be better for her to go to the gay attorney or to use me?
I loved that question.
My answer to her was, the winning argument, in my opinion, would be that this isn’t a gay case: This is a human case.
Bringing me into it as a heterosexual attorney allows me to argue the humanity rather than the sexual preference, above all else. And, I believe that that was one of the main things that tugged at the heartstrings of the court, both on the lower court, and the appellate court, as I brought out the fact that we as humans all need to be treated equally.
I believe that today, when it comes to LGBT issues, it’s the same approach that I use, that I am fighting for humanity rights rather than simply sexual preference rights, and I believe that’s what makes me the winning lawyer on these issues.
